An ad populum appeal to vanity ( apple polishing )

Well, this is about my niece. I receive her call this morning. The first thing she told me is “I very miss you, when do you come back?” I was very happy to heard that she told me like this. But, behind the story, she actually wish me to buy her a new edition of Barbie dolls. So, she says “ I know you’re my best aunty forever, and you’re such a caring person, you always take care of me, always loves me, always know and understand me rite?” My niece are trying to apple polishing me to persuade me to buy her Barbie dolls. She success to makes me feels that I’m important and special to her and I feels glad to heard that she remember me well. This is what I called “be someone special” like I ever had.

An ad populum appeal to common practice.....

I just back from my group discussion for BAC assignment. Once I reach home, I saw three of my housemate, Andrew, Windy, and Stanley are crowded in front Kim’s pc. I’m so curious about what are they doing. With a loud “hi”, I going towards and have a look. They are trying to broke into other peoples computers folders systems. In my opinion, it was an unethical behavior. I told them not to do so, but my housemate, Stanley said “ It’s ok to take a look, I saw many people in forum did it, they even teach us how to broke in”. They think that it was usual. They didn’t feel any guilty or unethical. But, I would like to say that, I wont do like this. It was too rude to broke other peoples privacy. Everyone should have their own secret, and we shouldn’t try to broke it or shows it to others. I was so angry with what they did, but I’m speechless about that. So I just went back to my room, open my blog and let my anger out, and I feel better now.

An ad populum appeal to shame (advertisement)

Today I was watching an advertisement which I get from my friends from the forward email. It seems like the advertiser are using an ad populum appeal to shame to convince peoples to buy their product and use it. But it was a very funny advertisement. Enjoy it!

Inductive Argument.

It was raining heavily now. I feel so sleepy, but I have to done my tutorial question first. 1 hour ago, I’m watching a movie. It was about a father and his son. His son work at an audit firm and earn some money was asking his dad, “ If I give you this amount of money, what will you going to do with it?”. The father replied “ I would like to sell fish balls at Japan” because all Japanese likes to eat fish, fish balls made by fish, so all Japanese must be like to eat it”. The father in the movie was using an inductive argument.

Tu quoque Fallacy

I was so sleepy today. After my management class end today, straight away I’m going back to my house and have a deep sleep. It has been so many days I didn’t sleep well. Rushing for assignment, revision for my management quiz, even though last night I still preparing for my management quiz on this afternoon. Since I were studying here, I know it wont be so easy for me, I looks tired recently. Lack of proper sleep, foods and time to relax. Last night, sleep around 4am and wake up at 7am is not enough for me, so I decide to going back and sleep after my management quiz. I have plan to attend the 5pm class, but finally I didn’t. I was so sleepy that time, I cant wake up. My eyes feels so pain. Kenji, my housemate and best friend, he knew that I have class at 5pm, so he knock my door and told me not to sleep. He told me not to skip the class, but himself always skip his class because he always over slept. Since I sleep till so comfort, I was very angry when he trying to disturb, so I yelled at him, “You always skip class, why I cant?”. He had nothing said and went back to his place. Just realize when I was awake, I was using Tu quoque Fallacy to accuses Kenji as another person who have the same fault as me. Although I was wrong for skipping my class today, but he is as same as me, or maybe he did more than that.

An ad hominem circumstantial Fallacy....

Just now I went for a lunch with my friends. When reach the shop, we order some drinks and one of my friend, Athena ask for any suggestion for ordering. The shopkeeper says that the salted lamb chop with rice and egg is the most delicious in his shop. But, he is the owner of the shop, and the price of that dishes is the most expensive dishes in his shop, sure he wants us to order it. Then, another of my friend, Jason said, “ It was too hot today, any drinks for relieve heat?”. Once again, the shopkeeper told him that the “kedondong shake with plum” is the most tasty and best drinks to relieve heat. When refer back to the menu, it was the most expensive drinks in that shop, of course he wish us to order it. My friend try it and he end up with paying RM20 just for a lunch. So, it tell us a lesson, not to order food by suggestion of the shopkeeper itself.

ad populum appeal to be shame

I was back to Cyberjaya again. Today is a rainy day. After taking a hot water bath, I decide to go out for a dinner. I wear a long sleeve polka dot blouse tonight because it was too cold outside there. But, to avoid my pants from being wet drop by the rain, I wear short pants which I wore for sleep. Once my roommate come in, she said “ Don’t you tell me that you wear this sleeping pant to go out dinner with us? You look like going to sleeping party more than going to dinner. If I’m Hann, I bet I won’t fetch you to go out”. I feel so shame on the time, so I change another outfit. In this case, my roommate has been using an ad populum appeal to shame to persuade me to change another outfit when going out. This incident give me a very important lesson, I will wear more tidy when go out next time.
